After this statement, the video of Sambhal SP went viral on social media. While speaking to the media, SP Krishna Kumar issued a stern warning, stating that all those involved in spreading chaos, pelting stones, and firing at the police will be arrested and face stringent action under the National Security Act (NSA). He further disclosed that several police officers, including his own gunner, sustained injuries during the incident.
"I myself sustained a leg injury, and my gunner was hurt in the back. We will review all CCTV footage from the scene, and strict action will be taken against the culprits. The situation is now fully under control," the SP added.
The clash stems from claims made by Kailadevi temple's Mahant Rishiraj Giri Maharaj, who alleged that the Shahi Jama Masjid is originally the Harihar Temple. He filed a petition in the civil court demanding a survey, which the court approved, directing a report within seven days.
After the order of the court, the survey team reached the mosque on Sunday morning. However, as news of the survey spread, a large crowd gathered outside the mosque. While the survey initially proceeded smoothly, the crowd eventually turned violent, leading to stone pelting and chaos at the site.
