A bus with 25-30 passengers plunged into the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand after breaking through guardrails. The accident happened around 8 AM while en route to Badrinath.

A bus carrying around 18-20 passengers fell into the Alaknanda river in Uttarakhand's Gholtir area. The incident occurred around 8 AM. At least one body has been recovered so far; several others are feared dead.

The bus was going from Rudraprayag towards Badrinath. Some of the passengers were rescued, but several are still missing. The concern for the missing passenger is high as the Alaknanda is overflowing due to heavy rain in the state.

SDRF and NDRF teams are on the spot and rescue operations are underway.

Witnesses said the bus broke through the guardrails and fell into the river. At least eight of the people on the bus, including the driver, were rescued. However, many were on the bus when it rolled down the side of the hill and fell into the river.

Police Headquarters spokesperson IG Nilesh Anand Bharane said, "A bus went out of control and fell into the Alaknanda river in Gholtir area of Rudraprayag district. As per information received so far, 18 people were on board the bus."

The raging Alaknanda swept away the bus.
