Three Indian Cities Make To Top 10 On List Of World's Slowest Traffic; Delhi, Mumbai Missing
Bengaluru and Kolkata have the slowest traffic among Indian cities, with Kolkata ranking second worst globally. Surprisingly, Delhi was ranked way lower than one would expect.

Indian roads are infamous for their painfully slow traffic and their pathetic conditions. Viral videos over the years have shown us moments — ranging from 'folding roads' to people ordering pizza in traffic jams — worthy of a 'hall of fame'. But do you know which cities have the slowest traffic?
Often videos and photos of traffic snarls from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru go viral. But apparently only one of these three feature in the top 10 of the list of cities with the world's slowest traffic.
You guessed it; it's Bengaluru! Surprisingly, Bengaluru is third on the list — behind another Indian city. So which city is at the top and where do Indian cities stand when it comes to waiting time in traffic jams?

Kolkata Has India's Worst Traffic, Second On Global List
According to TomTom Traffic Index, the Colombian city of Baranquilla has the worst traffic in the world with a commuter spending around 36 minutes and 6 seconds to travel every 10 km. In India, a Kolkatan spends around 34 minutes and 33 seconds to travel 10 km. This is an increase of 10 seconds from 2023. Kolkatans lost 110 hours stuck in traffic in 2024.

Next on the list is 'Namma Bengaluru', which is quite infamous for its long queues of vehicles, especially during peak hours. Here, the average travel time per 10 km is 34 minutes 10 seconds, an increase of over 50 seconds since 2023.

Bengaluru residents lost nearly 117 hours negotiating traffic.

Puneiites lost relatively less time in traffic than Kolkata and Bengaluru commuters and took the fourth spot on the list. A commuter in Pune took 33 minutes and 22 seconds on an average to travel every 10 km in 2024, which was an improvement by 1 minute. But nevertheless, the city's commuters lost 108 hours stuck in traffic.
The next Indian city on the list was Hyderabad, where each commuter lost nearly 85 hours stuck in traffic and spent 31.5 minutes travelling every 10 km.
The top 10 cities in India with the most time spent to travel 10 km were as follows: Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Ernakulam, Jaipur, and Delhi.
Cities with the best ranks featured mostly from the US, with Thousand Oaks (California), Little Rock (Arkansas), and Mesa (Arizona) getting the top three spots.
