This Noida Society Fined Rs 25 Lakh As 200 Residents Fall Ill Due To Contaminated Water
The residents of the society in Greater Noida had complained of vomiting, stomachache, and abdominal discomfort since the end of last week.
Action has been taken against a posh housing society in Greater Noida after over 200 residents fell ill over the past several days due to suspected contamination of the drinking water supply. Authorities collected samples and slapped a fine of Rs 25 lakh on the society, while punitive actions were being taken.
The residents of the Ajnara Homes had complained of vomiting, stomachache, and abdominal discomfort since the end of last week.
The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority said prima facie it was found that the cleaning work of the underground reservoir and upper reservoir built by the society has not been done for a long time. Quality water supply was not being provided due to the presence of bacteria, and clean water was being supplied by the Authority from the tube well, it added.
"For negligence related to public health, punitive action is taken and a fine of Rs 25 lakh is imposed on Ajnara Homes," it said.
Narender Kumar, the Chief Medical Officer of Gautambuddha Nagar, said a health response was underway. "We got the news that some people have fallen sick at Ajnara Home Society. I sent my Nodal DMO there, who told me that the overhead tank in Ajnara Home Society was cleaned probably last September and that the groundwater tank was not properly covered," he said.
A resident has claimed that the number of people who fell sick by drinking the contaminated water could rise up to 400 or 500. He said the residents had been facing this problem for the past four to five days.
