Tamil Nadu To See Rise In Temperature Next Week, Mercury Could Reach 36°C
Several areas in the state are already witnessing intense heat, with Vellore recording the highest temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius on March 14.

Following a short spell of rain, Tamil Nadu is gearing up for a spike in temperatures, with the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicting an increase of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average until March 19.
Maximum temperatures across the state are likely to hover between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius in the coming days. After a brief dip in temperature, Chennai is set to warm up again, with partly cloudy conditions expected. The Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam weather stations are projected to record maximum temperatures of 34 to 35 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures will range between 23 and 24 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours.
Rain Likely In Some Districts Amid Rising Heat
Though most of Tamil Nadu will remain dry, parts of the southern and delta districts could receive light to moderate rainfall in the coming days. This is attributed to increased moisture levels caused by a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. Coastal and nearby districts may also experience normal to slightly above-normal rainfall through March 20.
Several areas in the state are already witnessing intense heat, with Vellore recording the highest temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius on March 14. Other districts, including Tirupattur, Karur Paramathi, Chennai, Erode, and Madurai, have also seen mercury levels soaring above 38 degrees in recent days.
With temperatures on the rise, the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (DPH) has released a public advisory urging residents to take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
