Ambulance Driver Shot At Outside Hospital In Siwan As Bihar Gun Violence Continues

This incident follows the murder of a prisoner in Patna and the killings of BJP leaders and civilians, sparking political uproar and criticism of the state government's handling of law and order.

Another incident of gun violence took place in Bihar on Friday when an ambulance driver was shot at outside a hospital in Siwan district.

The operator of the private ambulance, identified as Pradeep Kumar, was shot twice near Sadar Hospital's main gate around 11 pm on Friday, reported IANS.

The driver was rushed to the hospital and was later referred to Patna in critical condition. Raids are underway to nab the accused.

An argument had broken out between two ambulance drivers after which one of them shot at Kumar, according to News18.

The incident comes amid increasing incidents of gun violence in the state, where assembly elections are due to be held later this year.

Earlier this week, a prisoner out on parole was shot dead in a hospital in the state capital, Patna. Chandan Mishra, a hardened criminal, died during treatment after five armed men entered Paras Hospital and pumped bullets into him before escaping.

The five shooters were seen pulling up their guns in the hospital CCTV footage.

A fresh wave of killings in Bihar, including the high-profile murders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and civilians, has triggered political uproar and raised serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

Earlier this month, BJP leader and businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead in broad daylight outside his residence in Patna. The incident sparked outrage, especially in light of reports that Khemka had sought police protection for his family prior to the attack.

His murder was soon followed by that of another BJP leader, Vikram Jha, who was fatally shot in Patna’s Ram Krishna Nagar area. Jha succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital.

The violence continued into the weekend. On Sunday, two more individuals — a lawyer in Patna and a teacher in Saran district — were shot dead in separate incidents. The killings have further fuelled public anxiety and political unrest.

As the state heads toward crucial assembly polls, opposition parties have intensified their criticism of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on the administration, pointing to the repeated killings as evidence of governance failure.

“Is anyone in the NDA government even willing to listen to the truth or accept their failures?” Yadav asked earlier this week, highlighting the brazenness of the murders — including those of BJP leaders — in the state capital.

The string of killings has not only raised questions about Bihar’s internal security but also added a volatile edge to the upcoming electoral battle.
