Sambhal Violence: Mosque Committee Head Zafar Ali Arrested, Akhilesh Meets Speaker Over FIR On SP MP Barq

Sambhal's Jama Masjid committee chief Zafar Ali has been arrested on Monday after violence in connection with the violence over a court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era mosque.

Speaking on the violence in Sambhal on Sunday, Zafar Ali said, " On Monday morning, on the orders of the District Magistrate, a survey team came to the mosque. There was no court order. The crowd became agitated after seeing the water from the mosque's wuzu khana (tank) flowing outside."

On his arrest, Zafar Ali said, "What is my fault? UP Police said that my activity was suspicious, which is why I am being taken into custody."

Meanwhile, the UP police told ABP News that the President of the Mosque committee has been taken into custody only for questioning at this stage. The police said that the 15 named accused arrested in connection with the violence will be presented before the court on Tuesday. 

The Police have lodged seven FIRs in connection with the violence over a court-ordered survey of a Mughal-era mosque here, naming Samajwadi Party MP Zia-ur-Rehman Barq and local SP MLA Iqbal Mehmood's son Sohail Iqbal as accused, officials said on Monday.

Meanwhile, the district administration has already imposed prohibitory orders and barred the entry of outsiders into Sambhal till November 30. So far, seven FIRs have been registered in the case and 25 arrests have been made. 

The Sambhal Police also conducted a flag march in the areas where the stone pelting incident took place on Monday. Internet services are suspended in Sambhal tehsil and the administration declared a holiday for all schools on Monday. A magisterial probe has also been ordered into the violence.

Post-Mortem Report Of 4 Deceased Released

Three people were killed in the violence, while several others, including security personnel and administration officials, were injured. Meanwhile, a fourth injured person died on Monday.

The post-mortem report of the four deceased revealed that the deaths were caused by bullets fired from a country-made gun. The report said that they death occurred due to bullets fired from country-made pistols of .315 bore.
