'Live-Stream Demand Not Related To Supreme Court': BJP Lashes Out At Bengal CM Mamata Over RG Kar

RG Kar case: Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has said that Mamata Banerjee's refusal to live-stream discussions with protesting doctors showed that she was scared of tough questions.

RG Kar News Update: West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari lashed out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not agreeing to the protesting doctors' demand to live-stream her discussions with them. The impasse over the doctors' protests seemed to be nearing an end on Thursday as CM Mamata Banerjee invited the protesters to Nabanna, the Bengal secretariat, to hold discussions.

While CM Mamata agreed to allow a 15-member delegation to the Nabanna, she did not agree to the protesters' demand to live-stream the talks as the RG Kar doctor's rape and murder case is sub-judice. Irked at this, the protesters refused to meet CM Mamata.

As the events unfolded on Thursday evening, Suvendu Adhikari posted on X that "it is all Mamata Banerjee's drama". The Bengal Opposition leader said, "The picture of the room where the Chief Minister was waiting was released by the government to impress the court. The live-streaming had nothing to do with the Supreme Court proceedings. The entire country is watching the hearing of the Supreme Court through live stream. The discussion that was supposed to take place at Nabanna's meeting room would not have been contempt of court. Would a trial have been conducted at the meeting?"

Mamata 'Ready To Resign'

After the doctors refused to meet her, CM Mamata Banerjee said there was a "political colour" to the protests and certain elements wanted her chair. She said that she was ready to resign from her post for the sake of justice.

She urged the agitating doctors to return to their duties and prevent further deaths in Bengal. "I tried my best to sit with the junior doctors. I spent three days waiting for them. They defied the Supreme Court, despite that I waited with my top officials to talk to them."

CM Mamata said two or three persons among the protesters were being instructed by "outsiders" to not go into discussions with the government. "They were told not to negotiate. We have all the information," she said.

Suvendu Says CM Mamata Is Scared

Suvendu Adhikari said that the livestreaming would have "unmasked" Mamata Banerjee; that is why she didn't accept the junior doctors's demand. "Junior doctors would have discussed corruption in the health department, which scared Mamata Banerjee, who is also the state Health Minister. In fact, Mamata Banerjee herself does not want this deadlock to end. Mamata Banerjee is resorting to various tactics to hand over the fodder for false arguments to the state advocate Kapil Sibal before the next [Supreme Court] hearing," the Nandigram MLA said.

"The Chief Minister was actually afraid of live streaming because she could not have answered questions on the flaws in the initial police investigation, the attempts to destroy evidence, and hasty cremation," Adhikari added.
