TMC MLA Slams Rumours Accusing Son Of RG Kar Doctor's Murder, Hints At Party Leaders Behind 'Conspiracy'

RG Kar Doctor Death: TMC MLA Soumen Mahapatra has expressed concerns about false propaganda against his son, involving the circulation of a missing person's photo.

Kolkata Doctor Case: Fresh details in the RG Kar rape and murder victim's autopsy report point towards the involvement of more than one person in the crime. The Opposition in the state, the BJP and the Left, have alleged that TMC supporters were involved in the crime and attempts are being made to shield them.

Amid the political mudslinging around the case, there have been cases of 'mistaken identities'. While some targeted the wrong 'Dr Sandip Ghosh', confusing him with the former principal of RG Kar MCH, others have targeted Trinamool Congress MLA Soumen Mahapatra's family. The former state minister has claimed that a propaganda is being conducted, targeting his son.

He alleged that a missing person's photo is being circulated, claiming that it was his son who had raped and murdered the junior doctor at RG Kar MCH. Voicing apprehensions of his family, Mahapatra said: "A picture of a missing person is being used to portray him as my son, accusing him of being the main accused. This is a false propaganda and can have dire consequences. If this continues, we may become victims of public anger."

Various posts on social media posts claimed that Soumen Mahapatra's son had murdered the junior doctor and was now in hiding. "TMC's Soumen Mahapatra's son interning in RG Kar and is underground since then, Arshean Alam, Shahbaz Golam," a post claimed. Some social media users even claimed that he was "smuggled out" of India.

TMC MLA Slams Rumours Accusing Son Of RG Kar Doctor's Murder, Hints At Party Leaders Behind 'Conspiracy
An X post claiming that TMC MLA Soumen Mahapatra's son was involved in the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

However, there were some who came in defence of the TMC MLA's family and confirmed that Bodhisattwa Mahapatra was in Panskura.

Soumen Mahapatra, a doctor himself, said his son Bodhisattwa also became a doctor in 2017. Soumen Mahapatra said: "Bodhisattwa is currently working as BMOH of Panskura-1 Block Health Centre. Such fake posts may harm our family."

The TMC MLA fears such propaganda is being done on purpose and hinted at his suspicion of a section of his own party being behind this 'conspiracy'. "So far, we have known that crows do not eat crow meat. But now I see, crows eat only crows’ meat," a News18 report quoted him as saying.

In a press conference, Soumen Mahapatra's wife Sumana said that Bodhisattwa's wife is now pregnant. At this time, such allegations can be harmful. Alleging that a section of the party is trying to drag down their family, Sumana said some corrupt people from the party were involved in the conspiracy.
