Hot Air Balloon Operator Dies During Trial Run For Event In Rajasthan's Baran

The final day of the three-day Baran Utsav took a fatal turn on Thursday morning when a hot air balloon service provider employee who was hired for the event died in the Baran area during the trial run of a hot air balloon, police said, PTI reported.

The deceased has been identified as Vasudev Khatri (40) and he was a resident of Kota.

As per the details shared by police, the incident took place at the Khel Sankul complex at about 7 AM when the hot air balloon suddenly soared in the sky with one of its ropes still in the hands of Khatri.

"When the balloon reached over 60 feet, the rope snapped, causing Khatri's fall to the ground", PTI quoted Omendra Singh Skhekhawat, DSP (Baran city), who was present at the spot saying.

Khatri was immediately rushed to Baran District Hospital, however, he succumbed to injuries. The deceased was transferred to the mortuary for post-mortem and further investigation into the matter is underway, the DSP said.

The DSP added that the deceased employee of the hot air balloon service provider firm was reportedly a specialist with two decades of experience in his field. Officials from Baran district administration and police were present at the complex at the time of the incident.

Six Injured In Hot Air Balloon Accident At Prayagraj Mahakumbh

Earlier in February, six people were injured when a hot air balloon filled with helium gas exploded at the Mahakumbh festival in Prayagraj. The incident occurred near Sector 20 of the festival grounds, close to the Akahara Marg, as devotees were celebrating the Hindu festival of Basant Panchami.

The hot air balloon was being prepared for takeoff when it suddenly exploded, injuring all six people in the basket. The injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.
