1 Dead, 1 Injured As Fire Breaks Out In Residential Building In Pune

A fire in a Pune residential building on Sunday resulted in the death of one person and the hospitalisation of another.

One woman died after a fire broke in a residential building on NIBM Road in Pune's Kondhwa area on Sunday, said the city's fire department. Another person was injured in the flames and has been undergoing treatment at a hospital, the department said, adding the fire has been doused. 

According to reports, the fire started in a flat in the SunShri building of the residential complex. Four fire tenders were pressed to service and the flames were doused. 

The authorities concerned are probing the cause of the fire. 

"Two persons were injured in the incident, including a woman who succumbed after being rushed to a nearby hospital. The cause of the fire is being ascertained," said an official, reported PTI. 

The incident comes two days after a fire broke out at a garment and shoe shop in Pune, gutting at least three shops. The incident took place in the Kudalwadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad late Thursday night. 

No casualties were reported and nobody was injured in the incident.

The fire tenders were rushed to the spot from the four fire stations located nearby, Pimpri Chinchwad Fire Officer Rupesh Jadhav told news agency PTI. The situation was not good when the fire tenders arrived, said the fire officer, adding that his team managed to swiftly control the flames.

Property worth lakhs was destroyed by the fire which was doued a few hours later. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
