Passenger Thrashed On Vande Bharat For ‘Refusing To Switch Seats’ With UP BJP MLA: VIDEO

The incident took place when BJP MLA Rajeev Singh, from Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi, was travelling with his wife and son on the Vande Bharat Express on June 19.

A passenger on a Vande Bharat Express train was thrashed after he allegedly refused to exchange seats with a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA. The incident took place on the New Delhi-Bhopal Vande Bharat Express on the evening of June 19, when BJP MLA from Babina in Jhansi, Rajeev Singh, was travelling to his constituency with his wife and son.

The incident was caught on camera and is being widely shared on social media. In the video, a group of men can be seen assaulting the passenger who was seated in his seat. They were raining punches on him and can also be seen using slippers to thrash him. Another video also surfaced on social media showing blood oozing from his nose and his shirt soaked in blood.

According to NDTV, Singh got a seat in the back of the train compartment, while his wife and son were seated in the front. The passenger who was thrashed was sitting next to them and allegedly refused to exchange his seat with Singh.

Later, some men, who are said to have been linked to the BJP MLA, boarded the train at the Jhansi station and assaulted the man, who was on his way to Bhopal.

BJP MLA Files NCR Against Passenger

Following the incident, Singh lodged a non-cognizable report (NCR) against the passenger. In his complaint, the MLA has accused the passenger of behaving in an indecent manner. He said that the man allegedly misbehaved with his family when an objection was raised on his behaviour and it was him who later called the group of men at Jhansi station, who also behaved abusively, news agency PTI reportes.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) confirmed receiving the complaint and said the altercation happened over changing seats and objectionable sitting posture inside the train.

Railway Superintendent of Police (Jhansi) Vipul Kumar Srivastava told reporters that the assaulted passenger had earlier said he would file a complaint after reaching Bhopal, but did not do so as of Friday afternoon.

Police also said that further action would follow once the second party formally files a complaint.
