Flight, Train Ops Disrupted As Dense Fog Engulfs Delhi, North India

Dense fog in North India disrupted flights and trains on Thursday. Delhi Airport advised passengers to check flight status due to potential delays or cancellations.

Parts of north India, including Delhi, were engulfed in a thick blanket of fog on Thursday affecting flight and train operations at many places.

In a passenger advisory, Delhi Airport stated that passengers to contact the concerned airline for updated flight information before starting the journey.

"While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected," it said.

Flights of SpiceJet, Indigo, and Air India were affected on Thursday even as Delhi reported an average delay of five minutes for arrival flights and 11 minutes for departure flights, according to FlightRadar24.

SpiceJet said its incoming and outgoing flights in Amritsar and Guwahati "may get affected" due to bad weather. The airline requested the passengers to "keep a check on their flight status."

IndiGo also issued a travel advisory stating dense fog may impact flight schedules in Amritsar and Guwahati. Changes to flight schedules were also made for Srinagar and Chandigarh due to low visibility and advised passengers in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Lucknow to check flight status due to fog conditions in these cities.

"Please allow extra time when travelling to the airport, as reduced visibility might affect vehicle movement," it added.

A similar advisory to check the flight status before the journey was issued by Air India.

Meanwhile, the fog has hit train schedules as well with many trains departing and arriving in Delhi running late, while some routes are being operated with changed timings.

Dense fog is expected to remain over several cities in north India including Delhi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Amritsar and Guwahati on Friday.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of dense to very dense fog in  Delhi, Rajasthan's Kota, Bundi, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Churu, Sri Ganganagar and Tonk, Punjab's Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran and Kapurthala, and Haryana's Kurukshetra, Ambala, Panchkula and Yamunanagar.
