'Mustafabad Building Collapse Was A Tragedy Waiting To Happen': MLA Mohan Bisht

In Mustafabad, Delhi, a dilapidated building collapsed due to heavy rainfall, resulting in four fatalities and 13 people trapped.

Mustafabad Building Collapse: Mustafabad MLA Mohan Singh Bisht has claimed that he had warned that the dilapidated building that collapsed on Saturday was a tragedy waiting to happen. He said that he had warned the authorities of the possibility of such a tragedy three months ago.

He alleged that the buildings in the area had been illegally constructed. Moreover, he has stressed that incidents like these continue to expose departments like Municipal CD, and strict action will be taken against the officials for their negligence.

"Three months ago, when I won the elections, I was in this area. I had said at that time that this building could cause an accident. I have told the Delhi LG and MCD commissioner that action should be taken against the officials for their negligence. Appropriate compensation will be provided to the family of the deceased... The entire Mustafabad is full of buildings that can cause harm. Buildings have been constructed illegally. The power companies are not providing power connections to the poor, but there are electric poles inside the houses... MCD and such departments are drenched in corruption, and this incident has exposed them," he said.

What Happened On Saturday Morning?

A multi-storey building collapsed on Saturday morning in Mustafabad due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Friday evening in Delhi. The building was constructed in an alleged illegal and densely populated colony. The structure was approximately 20 years old.

Four people were killed in the collapse on Saturday. A rescue operation was launched to evacuate those who were trapped under the debris. Police and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams managed to rescue more than 14 people till the last reports came in.

Delhi Mayor Mahesh Khinchi offered his condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in this tragic accident. He has also ordered MCD Municipal Commissioner Ashwani Kumar to investigate the incident and also instructed him to suspend the concerned officials for their negligence.

He also urged the workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to help facilitate the relief and rescue operations.
