Man Who Pulled Off Rs 1.9-Crore Jewellery Heist In Mumbai Arrested In MP
The suspected tied up the shop owner and staff, assaulted them and fled with jewellery valued at Rs 1.91 crore.
The Mumbai Police arrested the prime suspect for the armed robbery at a jewellery shop, where gold and silver items worth Rs 1.91 crore were stolen at gunpoint. The incident had occurred four days ago in Mumbai’s Agripada area.
According to the PTI report, the crime branch team apprehended the accused, Vinod Lankhan Pal, from Madhya Pradesh’s Niwadi district on Wednesday night. During the investigation, the crime branch found some important clues about the prime accused. This led the police to conduct a late-night raid of a farm in Niwadi.
The police had also examined CCTV footage of areas near the crime spot and also sought technical support following which Pal was tracked down to Madhya Pradesh, as per the report.
Pal was apprehended from the spot and was brought to Mumbai. The accused is a resident of Uttar Pradesh, along with another person allegedly robbed the jewellery shop located at Saat Rasta in Agripada area of Mumbai by brandishing a gun and knife on December 29.
Following a complaint filed by Bhavarlal Jain, the owner of Rishabh Jewellers located near Saat Rasta a case was filed, according to The Indian Express. In the complaint, Jain said that he and his employee were at the store around 3:30 pm when two unidentified men reached the shop pretending to be customers.
The two assailants also tied up Jain and his employee, they assaulted and subsequently stole all the valuables from the store as per The Indian Express. The accused looted ornaments weighing 2,458 grams, worth Rs 1.91 crore. Following this, the robbers fled the scene, a customer entered the shop and found Jain and the employee tied up.
Jain reported the incident to the Agripada police station, which led to the registration of a case under sections of the Indian Penal Code which pertains to robbery and house trespassing, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
