Mumbai, Kolkata Metro Services To Be Extended During Navratri, Durga Puja Celebrations. Check Details

To accommodate increased travel demand during festivals, Mumbai Metro will offer 12 additional metro service while Kolkata metro is also introducing 248 extra services.

The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL) has decided to offer 12 extra metro services in the city during the nightime. The decision has been taken in light of the Navratri festival, scheduled from October 7 to 11. The additional services will run at intervals of 15 minutes between Andheri West and Gundavali starting at 11 pm with the last train leaving at 12:30 am. 
 
Sanjay Mukherjee, the metropolitan commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said the move is aimed to ensure easy and comfortable travel for commuters during late-night celebrations." 

The Metro Railway Kolkata has also planned to cater to a similar increase in demand during Durga Puja celebrations in the city. 248 additional services of the metro train will be introduced in the city running until 4 am on October 10 and 11 along the North-South corridor, according to an official announcement, reported CNBC.

During the 'Saptami' and 'Ashtami-Navami' celebrations, the trains will operate from 12.55 pm to 1.02 am and again from 3:38 am to 4 am on the Dakshineswar-New Garia segment. 

On Dashami, October 12, a total of 174 services will be available from 1 pm until midnight while on 'Sasthi' (October 9), 288 services from 6:50 am until midnight will be run in the city, said the official. 

64 services will be offered on the Green Line – 1 (Sector V to Sealdah)on 'Saptami-Ashtami/Navami', 48 on 'Dashami', and 106 on 'Sasthi'.

On Green Line-2 between Howrah Maidan to Esplanade118 services on 'Saptami-Ashtami/Navami' and 80 services on 'Dashami' will be offered. 

On the occasion of 'Sasthi',118 services along the corridor, parts of which run under the river Ganga will be provided by the Kolkata Metro. 

On Friday, services along both lines of the North-South corridor of Kolkata Metro were disrupted between Dumdum and Dakshineswar stations for over an hour due to signal failure.  However, the services remained unaffected between Dumdum and Kavi Subhash stations.
