Mumbai Horror: 17-Year-Old Girl Set On Fire by Boyfriend In Andheri, Condition Critical

A 17-year-old girl in Mumbai was set on fire by her boyfriend after her mother forbade him from meeting her. The girl suffered 60% burns and is in a critical condition.

Mumbai: The Marol locality in Mumbai’s Andheri (East) area saw a shocking crime on Sunday night. A 17-year-old girl was doused in petrol and set on fire allegedly by her purported boyfriend. The victim suffered 60% burns and is currently in a critical condition. The horrifying attack took place around 11:30 PM on Sunday.

According to reports, the girl was sitting with her friends in a chawl after dinner when the accused, identified as Jitendra alias Jeetu Tambe, arrived at the scene. Without warning, he poured petrol on her and set her ablaze.

Victim Sustains Severe Burns, Unable To Speak

Mumbai Police revealed that the victim sustained severe burns on her face, neck, abdomen, private parts, hands, and legs. She was rushed to Dr RN Cooper Hospital in Juhu, where she remains in critical condition and is unable to speak due to her injuries.

Doctors at the hospital said she suffered 60% burns in the attack.

Investigations indicate that the victim and the accused had been in a relationship for the past few months. However, the girl’s mother had recently forbidden Tambe from meeting her daughter. While the exact motive behind the attack is still unclear, police are actively probing the case.

According to media reports quoting the police, Tambe works in a firm offering cable services. The Mumbai police have registered a case under Section 124(1) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by using acid or other means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Accused Also Injured, Booked Under IPC Sections

The accused, Jitendra Tambe, also suffered burns during the incident and is receiving treatment at the same hospital. The MIDC police have registered a case against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including charges related to causing grievous injury using acid or flammable substances.
