Karnataka Governor Writes To Chief Secretary, Seeks Report On Alleged MUDA Scam

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has requested a detailed investigation into an alleged scam involving MUDA, as well as the submission of a comprehensive report along with relevant documents.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has taken an initiative in response to allegations surrounding the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) by writing to the state's Chief Secretary, Shalini Rajneesh. The Governor has requested a detailed investigation into an alleged scam involving MUDA, as well as the submission of a comprehensive report along with relevant documents.

The controversy stems from a complaint filed by Sri P.S. Nataraj of Mysuru on August 27, 2024. In his representation, Nataraj alleged that MUDA undertook works worth Rs 387 crores in violation of sections 15 and 25 of the Karnataka Urban Development Authority Act, 1987. These works were reportedly carried out in the Varuna constituency, represented by Chief Minister, and in Srirangapattana constituency. The complaint further claimed that these decisions were made based on the oral instructions of the Chief Minister, despite the non-availability of funds within the authority.

Further, according to the Governor, Nataraj has also accused MUDA of misusing its power and has called for an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Recognizing the severity of these allegations, Governor Gehlot has directed Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Governor emphasised the importance of this issue, stating in his letter, "Since the allegation is of serious nature, it is directed to look into the matter and submit the detailed report along with documents at the earliest."

Earlier, the MUDA scam came to light after social activist Snehamayi Krishna filed a complaint against Siddaramaiah and nine others. They were accused of forging documents to fraudulently claim compensation from the MUDA.
