How High Electricity Bill For A Locked Room Led To Discovery Of MP Woman's Body In Refrigerator

The body of a woman was found stuffed in a refrigerator for more than six months in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas.

Balveer Rajput had moved to a two-storey house in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas with his wife and two children in July last year and was already frustrated over the high electricity bill.

He had rented the room on the ground floor of the house in Vrindavan Dham, owned by businessman Dhirendra Shrivastava, who was in Dubai for the past six months.

The ground floor had a room, kitchen, and toiled to the right, and two bedrooms and a hall on the left with a staircase leading to the first floor, separating both portions. The upper floor was retained by the house owner, according to The Times of India report.

While one room was open and the other room remained locked Balveer repeatedly asked the landlord to allow him to use the locked room for his family. The owner eventually permitted to open the room.

On Thursday, the tenant broke the lock and found a refrigerator running. Irritated by the previous tenant's "carelessness" he switched it off believing he finally solved the cause for his inordinately high electricity bills, reported TOI..

However, little did he know about the plot twist as by the next morning, a foul smell covered the area. After neighbours alerted the police, the rotten body of Pinky alias Pratibha Prajapati was found inside the refrigerator wrapped in a bedsheet.

Pinky's live-in partner, Sanjay Patidar has been named prime accused in the grisly murder who had rented the room before Balveer.

He rented the house until June 2024 and left two rooms locked when he vacated in June 2024. He claimed he would return to collect his belongings including the refrigerator that concealed the body.

According to police, Pinky was killed in March 2024 after Patidar strangled her to death for her insistence on marriage despite knowing he was already married with children.

He, along with his friend Vinod Dave stuffed the body into the fridge, turned it to its coldest setting, and locked the room before fleeing. Pinky and Patidar lived together for over five years, but their relationship soured, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Jaiveer Bhadoria.

Patidar was arrested hours after the body was found and confessed to the crime.
