Massive Storm Results In Power Cuts, Waterlogging Across Gurgaon; Netizens Question Authorities

The downpour, accompanied by strong winds, wreaked havoc across the region—uprooting trees, toppling electric poles, and causing traffic snarls on key roads.

A night of intense rainfall and thunderstorms brought life to a standstill in parts of Delhi NCR, with residents in several upscale Gurgaon neighbourhoods waking up to widespread power outages and disrupted services. The downpour, accompanied by strong winds, wreaked havoc across the region—uprooting trees, toppling electric poles, and causing traffic snarls on key roads.

Residents Express Frustration Over Extended Outages

The impact of the storm was most sharply felt in Gurgaon, where residents across multiple sectors and housing societies voiced their anger on social media over prolonged electricity cuts.

In DLF Phase 1, power remained unavailable for several hours. One resident, Arjun, took to X to vent his frustration, writing, “Oh, it’s 2025, and welcome to DLF Phase 1, Gurgaon—where a 5-minute drizzle still earns us a generous 8-hour power cut. Because, you know, who needs electricity in a ‘millennium city’?”

Another resident, Kapil, shared an image of a collapsed electricity pole in DLF Phase 2 and wrote, “It's been 10 hours and the state-of-the-art infrastructure is lost in just one rain in Gurgaon’s most posh society.”

Essential Services Hit in Multiple Sectors

The outages were not restricted to a few pockets. In Sector 99, a user reported, “No Electricity supply more than 24 hours in Riddhi Siddhi society sector 99 Gurgaon,” and added that water supply in the area had also been affected, with resident complaints going unheard by the authorities.

Sector 13 faced similar troubles. One resident posted: “There is no supply from night and we are suffering,” pointing to the extended disruption that stretched well beyond just an inconvenience.

The heavy rainfall’s effects weren’t limited to power issues. With gusty winds and showers battering the NCR region, air traffic was also impacted, leading to flight diversions. Additionally, fallen trees and blocked roads caused major traffic bottlenecks across the capital’s satellite towns.

Many roads of the region were waterlogged with citizens finding it difficult to navigate the area. One user, Sumedha Sharma, wrote on X, " Marathon meetings big promises and one night rain leaves city like this."

The repeated failure of Gurgaon’s power infrastructure, particularly in high-end residential areas, has become a familiar problem for residents during seasonal weather events. Despite being touted as one of India’s leading urban hubs, the city’s basic services continue to falter under weather stress, prompting calls for more robust civic planning and emergency response measures.
