Bihar Bypolls On November 13
The bypolls were necessitated in the Tarari, Ramgarh, Belaganj and Imamganj Assembly seats after their MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha in the recent elections. The Belaganj seat fell vacant after the Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) Surendra Prasad Yadav was elected to the Lok Sabha from Jehanabad. Singh will face a triangular contest against the ruling Janata Dal (United)'s Manorama Devi and Mohammad Amjad of Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party.
Former MP Shahabuddin's wife Hina Shahab and son Osama Shahab joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the presence of party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Bihar's former deputy chief minister Tejaswi Yadav, in Patna in October. Hina contested as an independent in the recent Lok Sabha elections but had to face defeat. In the polls, she trailed behind the Janata Dal (United) candidate Vijaylakshmi Devi by 92,000 votes.
Mohammad Shahabuddin, who represented Siwan as a Member of Parliament from 1996 to 2004, wielded significant influence in the region.
He died in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic while serving a life sentence in Delhi's Tihar Jail for a double murder.
Shahabuddin faced over 36 criminal charges during his political career, including the high-profile killing of JNUSU president and journalist Rajdeo Ranjan.
