Heavy Rain Returns To Maharashtra, IMD Issues High Alert In Six Districts

Heavy rains return to Maharashtra as IMD issues alert for 6 districts, warning of intense downpours. Early monsoon boosts sowing prospects amid rising flood concerns.

After a brief lull, monsoon showers have made a strong comeback across Maharashtra, with heavy rainfall lashing several parts of the state over the past two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued a fresh alert, warning of intense downpours in the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Kolhapur, Pune, Raigad, Sangli, Satara, and Thane districts. A high alert has been sounded in these areas, and residents are advised to remain vigilant.

Monsoon Arrives Early

The monsoon arrived in Maharashtra ahead of schedule this year. Typically, rains enter the state around June 7, but this time, the monsoon made landfall 12 days early on May 25. The early onset brought heavy showers for four to five consecutive days, giving the state a substantial rainfall boost.

However, the intense rainfall initially delayed pre-sowing agricultural preparations. The subsequent dry spell allowed farmers to complete those preparations before the latest round of rain began.

Fresh Showers Bring Relief

The return of consistent rainfall over the last two days has brought significant relief to farmers across the state. With fields ready, sowing activities are expected to pick up pace rapidly.

In Mumbai, overcast skies dominated the day before heavy rain swept through the city and its suburbs by evening, bringing down temperatures and offering a welcome break from the heat.

In Sangli and the surrounding areas, rain has been ongoing for the past two days. Rising water levels in rivers and streams have triggered flood-like conditions in some areas, but they have also revived hopes for a strong agricultural season.

With the monsoon gaining momentum once again, Maharashtra appears set for an active and potentially beneficial rainy season, provided the weather stays within manageable limits.
