Maharashtra CM Fadnavis Hints At 'Bulldozer Justice' Against Nagpur Rioters: WATCH

Nagpur Riots Update: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting with officials regarding the Nagpur violence. He said fake information was spread to claim Quranic verses were burned.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a high-level meeting with senior police and administrative officials on Saturday regarding the recent violence in Nagpur. Addressing the Press after the meeting, he said false propaganda was spread, claiming that Quranic verses were burned, which led to large-scale violence.

Fadnavis asserted, "We shall not rest until those responsible for the violence are punished. Those who attacked police personnel will not be spared." He further warned that the damages caused by the riots would be recovered from the rioters, and their properties would be seized if necessary.

'Bulldozer Action Where Needed'

Fadnavis further said: "In Maharashtra, we take action in our own way. Where a bulldozer is needed, it will be used. Any wrongdoing will be crushed and no one will be spared."

This marks CM Fadnavis' first visit to Nagpur since the violence erupted. He gathered detailed reports from senior officials regarding the incident, which resulted in several police officers being injured.

Nagpur holds special significance as it is Fadnavis' hometown and also houses the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP's apolitical parent body.

Backing Fadnavis, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said in Delhi, "The Bharatiya Janata Party's policy is clear — those who resort to violence will face consequences. Anyone taking the law into their own hands will be dealt with under a zero-tolerance policy. Call it the Uttar Pradesh model, Devendra Fadnavis' model, or BJP's national model under Narendra Modi's leadership — wrongdoers will not be tolerated, and strict legal action will be taken."

104 Arrested So Far In Nagpur Riots Cases

Providing details about the incident, Fadnavis said that earlier in the day, a replica of Aurangzeb's tomb was burned, leading to an FIR being registered. However, rumours spread that Quranic verses were inscribed on it, inciting mob violence. The mob indulged in stone-pelting and large-scale arson.

Fadnavis said that police took necessary preventive action and are now identifying the rioters through CCTV footage. "So far, 104 people have been arrested, and more arrests will follow. Those who participated in the riots or aided the rioters will face legal consequences," he added.

Social Media Monitoring: 68 Posts Identified

Fadnavis also highlighted the role of misinformation on social media, stating that individuals spreading fake news would be treated as co-accused. "We have identified 68 misleading social media posts and taken them down," he said.
