Indian Couple Who Jumped Into Jhelum United In Death By Pakistan Army
A couple's bodies were found in the Jhelum in Pakistan, more than two weeks after they jumped to their deaths in Uri.

A couple jumped into the Jhelum in Uri, Baramulla, approximately 18 days ago and were swept away by the strong current into the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK. They purportedly ended their lives as their families were against their relationship. However, they were united in death as the Pakistani Army retrieved their bodies and handed them over to India.
The administration of PoK handed over the bodies of the couple on Saturday March 22 via the command post bridge along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri.
'Family Opposed Marriage'
The deceased were identified as Yasir Hussain Shah, son of Muza Ali Shah of Uri's Basgran, and Asiya Bano, daughter of Mohabbat Khan. The two were reportedly in a relationship and took their own lives after their families refused to allow them to marry.
Officials said that on March 20, the boy's body was spotted floating in the river near a command post close to the Line of Control (LoC). An official said, "Police and rescue teams attempted to retrieve him, but due to the strong current, he was swept across the border."
The boy's body was finally recovered from Chinari (PoK) on Thursday evening March 20, while the girl's body was fished out of the Jhelum in Chhater on 19 March. Officials said the matter was raised with the administration on the other side of the LoC.
An official said, "A meeting was held today at the command post, Uri, which was attended by the SDPO Uri, SHO Uri, Nayab, Tehsildar and a team of doctors, Indian Army and officials from the Uri administration, including the parents of the deceased and their counterparts on the other side. The Uri administration has now received both bodies, which were swept across the LoC."
Pakistan Army Hands Over Bodies To India
These individuals had been missing for over two weeks after jumping into the Jhelum in Dulanja village near the Line of Control on March 5, 2025. The bodies have been handed over to the respective families for the last rites, but the coming together of Indian and Pakistani officials has helped the bereaved families.
