New Year 2025: Security Beefed Up In Delhi

In view of the New Year celebrations, the Delhi Police has beefed up security in the national capital. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said additional patrolling and specialised units have been deployed in key areas across the city to maintain law and order.

"Security checkpoints with breath analysers have been set up at 21 strategic locations to regulate vehicular movement and prevent any incidents related to drunk driving," the DCP said, according to IANS. Quick reaction teams (QRTs) have been stationed at 15 critical points and 38 PCR vehicles have been strategically placed to ensure rapid mobility and emergency response, he added.

Over 10,000 officers will be on duty while paramilitary forces will be deployed at city border points to curb illegal activities.

Around 31 key locations where celebrations will be held will be under enhanced coverage while strict monitoring will be maintained in 15 malls, motels, cinema halls and other popular gathering spots.

Security has also been upped at bus stops and critical road routes, with personnel deployed on 40 motorcycles to ensure quick response times. Eight prominent hotels are also under heightened surveillance, he added.

Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, India Gate, and areas near malls and markets will be the focus of security in the city, DCP Chauhan said.

At Connaught Place, which is expected to have a huge influx of visitors, only vehicles with valid permits issued by the police will be allowed into the Inner Circle area. Additionally, checks will be conducted at bus stands, railway stations, hotels, and other public spaces to ensure that individuals are staying legally and with proper documentation.

Security arrangements in the New Delhi district have been divided into two zones under the supervision of senior officers. Parliament Street and Connaught Place have been grouped under Zone 1 while Zone 2 includes Chanakya Puri, Barakhamba Road and Tughlak Road.
