'KTR Tapped His Sister Kavitha's Phones': Congress's Big Allegation Against BRS

The BRS was in power until its defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections. Founded by KCR in 2001, the party played a key role in the creation of Telangana state in 2014.

The ongoing phone-tapping row in Telangana has taken a dramatic turn, with Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy accusing the former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime of spying on its own leaders. In a startling claim, Reddy alleged that KT Rama Rao (KTR), BRS Working President and son of former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), ordered surveillance on his own sister, K Kavitha.

War Of Words Between Congress And BRS

Reddy’s statement comes amid a war of words between the ruling Congress and the BRS over recent allegations that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was monitoring members of his cabinet. Countering these claims, Kiran Kumar Reddy remarked, “KTR got his own sister’s phone tapped when they were in power. How low can one go?”

The BRS, formerly Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), was in power until its defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections. Founded by KCR in 2001, the party played a key role in the creation of Telangana state in 2014 and rebranded itself in 2022 with national ambitions. KTR, seen as his father’s political heir, holds a senior position in the party, while Kavitha currently serves in the Telangana Legislative Council.

While the BRS has always projected unity within its top ranks, recent developments suggest tensions behind the scenes. Reddy’s claims come at a time when a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is already looking into allegations that the BRS government had tapped the phones of journalists, political opponents, and even Union ministers.

This fresh accusation, involving family surveillance, threatens to deepen the crisis for BRS and raise uncomfortable questions about internal discord in one of Telangana’s most powerful political families.
