Kolkata Doctor Rape And Murder Case: CBI Raids RG Kar Ex-Principal Sandip Ghosh's House In Corruption Probe

CBI is searching 15 locations, including the residence of Dr Sandip Ghosh, ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College, in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the hospital.

Kolkata Doctor Death Case: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday launched searches at 15 locations, including the residence of Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The searches are in connection with the case related to the alleged financial irregularities at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata where the trainee doctor was found raped and murdered on August 9.

Earlier, quoting sources, news agency ANI reported that searches are also underway at locations linked to Ghosh's relatives.

The action comes a day after the probe agency filed a case alleging financial irregularities at the Kolkata hospital. CBI took over the probe from the special investigation team (SIT) formed by the West Bengal government, following a directive from the Calcutta High Court. The CBI received all the documents in the corruption case from the state government's Special Investigation Team on Saturday morning.

The allegations against Sandip Ghosh include those involving alleged trafficking of unclaimed bodies. Akhtar Ali, former Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Medical College, approached the High Court on Wednesday and pleaded that the probe into the graft allegations against Sandeep Ghosh be handed over to the Enforcement Directorate. Ali also alleged that the rape & murder accused, Sanjay Roy, was part of the security of the former principal. Ali also stated that Ghosh was engaged in trafficking biomedical waste and medical supplies to Bangladesh.

Sandip Ghosh was subjected to a polygraph test on Saturday, along with Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the Kolkata doctor rape and death case. Sanjay Roy underwent the test in prison, while Sandip Ghosh appeared for the CBI's office in Kolkata. Four other doctors and a civic volunteer, who were on duty on the night of the incident also took the test at the CBI's office.
