Kerala Firm Chains Employees, Make Them Crawl For Not Meeting Targets; Video Goes Viral

A viral video depicted degrading treatment of underperforming employees at a marketing firm, including crawling on knees and licking coins.

A disturbing video emerged on social media recently where underperforming employees at a private marketing firm were allegedly subjected to degrading treatment, including making them walk on their knees like chained dogs and lick coins from the floor.

The visuals from a viral video showed a person using a leash to force a man to crawl on his knees on the floor, resembling a dog.

Later, some people who claimed to be employees at the firm told a TV channel that the management of the firm punished the employees like this who fail to achieve targets.

No Complaint Received By Cops

According to police, the incident took place in connection with a private marketing firm functioning in Kaloor and the crime allegedly occurred at nearby Perumbavoor.

No complaint has been filed and the owner has denied the allegations, the cops told reporters, reported PTI.

Notably, in a twist, the man who was purportedly subject to the harassment and torture later told the media that there was no workplace harassment in the firm, contrary to what was depicted in the footage.

"I am still working in the firm... these visuals were from some months ago forcefully taken by a person who was working as the manager of the institution then. He was later asked to quit by the management and he is now using the visuals to tarnish the owner of the firm," he claimed.

Probe Ordered

The State Labour Department ordered a probe into the alleged inhuman workplace harassment soon after the visuals were aired by local TV channels on Saturday.

Separate investigations have been launched by police and the Labour Department to ensure the authenticity of the visuals.

Labour Minister V Sivankutty ordered a probe on Saturday into the undated incident and instructed the district labour officer to submit an immediate report on the incident.

Labour Minister Sivankutty condemned the visuals "shocking and disturbing", adding it cannot be accepted at any cost in a state like Kerala.

The State Human Rights Commission booked a case into the incident based on a complaint by High Court lawyer Kulathoor Jaisingh.
