A 19-year-old tribal youth was reportedly assaulted, stripped, and tied to an electric pole for “causing a traffic disturbance” in the Palakkad district of Kerala.
The confrontation took place last Saturday evening near the Chittur tribal settlement within the Agali police area in Palakkad, where the victim, Siju V, was walking along a roadside.
The arrested accused were identified as Vishnu Das (31) and Reji Mathew (21), both residents of Sholayur in Attappadi, who worked as milk collection agents for a local dairy, according to a report by the Indian Express.
“I accidentally slipped on the road when a mini-truck approached. Two persons emerged from the vehicle showered abusive words and manhandled me without any provocation. They said I had deliberately fallen in front of their vehicle. There was enough space for their mini truck to move ahead. One of them tied me to an electric post while the other person recorded it in mobile phone,’’ Siju, who is admitted to the government tribal specialty hospital at Attappadi, recounted in his police complaint.

Later, following the circulation of video on social media, police filed the FIR on Tuesday under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act.
In the meantime, the occupants of the mini-truck had also filed a police complaint accusing Siju of damaging their vehicle, further alleging that when Siju allegedly threw a stone at the truck when he was manhandled. Following the complaint, a case was also registered against Saju, the Police said.
Further, police said that after being provoked by the vehicle getting damaged, both the accused tied the youth to the post.
