Bengaluru Man Harasses Couple In Park, Asks Woman To 'Take Off Burqa'

In response, the Kothanuru police responded to the X user who posted the video, requesting him to DM in order to get more details about the incident

An incident of harassing a Muslim girl and a Hindu boy by an unidentified man at a park in Bengaluru surfaced on social media. The video was posted on the social media platform X and tagged to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner.

In the video, a man is seen filming a couple and interrogating them about their relationship. He tells the girl to remove her burqa, referring to it as “Muslim attire,” and insists on knowing her name. He also confronts the boy, asking how he could be involved with a Muslim girl.

Even as the girl repeatedly begs him to stop, the man continues to intimidate the pair and warns them that more people are on their way to confront them. He tells the girl, “Community members are coming, stay right here.”

In response, the Kothanuru police responded to the X user who posted the video, requesting him to DM in order to get more details about the incident to resolve the issue. "This is police sub inspector from kothanuru police station...Plz provide your contact number or DM for my num 9986535381, It will help us resolve things please," police said.

Moral Policing In Bengaluru’s Suvarna Layout

Just days earlier, on April 11, a similar incident of moral policing took place in Bengaluru’s Suvarna Layout. A Hindu boy and a burqa-wearing Muslim girl, both classmates, were sitting on a bike in a public park when five Muslim men, including a minor, approached them.

According to a report by India Today, the men questioned the girl for being with a Hindu boy and demanded her family’s contact details. When she refused, they allegedly attempted to assault the boy. The group also recorded the encounter and circulated the video on social media.

Following a complaint from the girl, police from the Chandra Layout station arrested all five individuals. Investigations into the incidents are underway, and authorities have promised appropriate action.

Similarly, four people were arrested a minor was detained by the Karnataka Police on Friday (April 12) in connection with a case of moral policing reported under the Chandra Layout police station limits in Bengaluru. The accused reportedly confronted a Muslim woman for speaking with a Hindu youth. She was verbally abused and assaulted by them.

In a similar incident, another video surfaced on X showing a group of men allegedly assaulting and misbehaving with a Muslim woman in public. The woman was reportedly with a Hindu man at the time of the incident, which appears to have provoked the attackers. 

The incident occurred when Farheen, 20, and a man named Sachin were heading to pick up a loan installment in a little lane in the Khalapar neighborhood. At her mother's request, Sachin rode along on a motorcycle with Farheen, who works for Utkarsh Small Finance Limited and lives in Khalapar, as per India Today's report.

A gang of eight to ten males allegedly harassed and physically assaulted them while they were traveling. After a bystander captured the entire incident on camera with a cell phone, it went viral on social media and immediately caught the public's and authorities' attention.
