Jharkhand: 5 Kanwar Yatra Pilgrims Electrocuted To Death In Latehar

Five Kanwar Yatra pilgrims were electrocuted to death and three others were left injured in Jharkhand's Latehar district.

Jharkhand News: At least five Kanwar Yatra pilgrims were electrocuted to death and three others were left injured in Jharkhand's Latehar district on Thursday morning after their vehicle came into contact with a high-tension overhead wire, police said.

The incident occurred at Tam Tam Tola in the Balumath police station area around 3 am. The pilgrims were returning from Baba Baidyanath temple in Deoghar when their vehicle hit an electricity pole, police added.

"A high-tension overhead wire fell on their vehicle. Five people were killed and three others injured," Balumath sub-divisional police officer Ashutosh Kumar Satyam told PTI. The injured have been admitted to a hospital, police added.

In another incident that occurred last month, at least three persons, including a Nepali, were killed in Pune city and another three were trapped in their posh villas after a hill slide in Lavasa city in rain-related havoc here, the Pune Disaster Control said, as reported by IANS.

In the first incident, three mobile snack stall owners were electrocuted when they attempted to shift their handcart to safety from the flood waters near the Z bridge around 3 a.m. They were rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed during treatment, and are identified as a Nepali youth Shiva Jidbahadur Pariyar, 18, Akash V. Mane, 21, and Abhishek A. Ghanekar, 25, said the officials.

In the second disaster, a hill slide triggered by heavy rain in Lavasa city in Mulshi buried at least three villas, trapping around three persons this morning. An NDRF team has been rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operations, and the identity of the victims is not yet available.

In a separate incident in the same month, a boy who climbed an electric pole to rescue a pigeon stuck on one of the high-tension power wires was electrocuted and succumbed to the electric shock, in Chitradurga District of Karnataka.

According to IANS, the incident occurred in Hanumapura Village and the deceased has been identified as 12-year-old Ramachandra, a sixth-standard student. According to the police, the boy saw a stuck pigeon struggling on one of the high-tension wires on the electric pole.
