Bashir Ahmad Veeri Wins Bijbehara Assembly Elections

The 57-year-old National Conference leader is a medical doctor and social worker by profession. He recently secured a major win in the Bijbehara assembly elections, defeating BJP’s Sufi Yusif and Iltija Mufti from the PDP, the daughter of former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, by a huge margin.

The National Conference won assembly elections 2024 with flying colours in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, securing 42 seats out of the 90, resulting in formation of government.

The party chief Omar Abdullah took oath as the CM of J&K. Abdullah won from both the Budgam and Ganderbal Assembly seats by over 18,000 and 10,000 votes, respectively. The NC has forged the alliance with Congress, which won six seats.

According to the Election Commission, Veeri's assets total Rs 2.6 crore, including Rs 74.5 lakh in movable assets and Rs 1.9 crore in immovable assets, with a declared income of Rs 29.4 lakh. His affidavit shows no criminal cases registered against him.

Previously, Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri has lost to Abdul Rehman Bhat of the PDP in 2014 by a margin of 2,868 votes. PDP has managed to gain 48.79 per cent of the total votes during the election.
