Himachal Groom Arrives To Bride's Village With Baraat, Returns Empty-Handed. Here's What Happened

The wedding was reportedly fixed in a hurry and hence the families did not meet before the wedding. The middlemen are now being questioned by the police.

In a bizarre incident, a marriage procession (baraat) from Nari village in Himachal Pradesh's Una district returned home without the bride as no wedding was planned in the Singa village, where the marriage ceremony was supposed to take place on Tuesday.

The groom did not even get to meet the bride after finding out that there was no wedding planned in the Singa village. The groom's side was shocked when they showed the bride's photograph to the villagers and got to know that she was not from their village.

The sarpanch of Singa village, Gurdev Singh Gyani, said there is no such girl or family in the village, adding the incident is unfortunate. Upon finding this, the middlemen Manu, the wife of one Rajiv from Nari village, fled from the spot, assuring the groom's side that she would find the girl, news agency PTI reported.

The wedding was reportedly fixed in a hurry and hence the families did not meet before the wedding. The family members of the 34-year-old groom had been looking for a suitable match for him for the past several years. When he was shown the girl's photograph, he agreed as he found her to be beautiful and well educated.

The couple Manu and Rajiv, who are also the neighbours of the groom, reportedly took Rs 50,000 to get the marriage fixed. They are now being questioned as the groom and the bride never met, and they only spoke on phone for a week before the wedding.

Middlemen To Bear Wedding Expenses

As the situation became tense, the police arrived and contacted the middleman. They were then told that the bride had consumed some poisonous substance and was en route to Punjab's Nawanshahr Hospital, PTI reported.

However, the suspicious groom's side surrounded the woman Manu and brought her back to Singa village, where the local panchayat representatives also reached to settle the matter. The police have also taken the statements of the victim groom and his family, but no FIR has been registered yet.

The middleman also told the police that the bride was in contact with another man living in Australia. He is also a resident of Sangi village and had reportedly sent the girl's photo to the middlemen to get her marriage fixed, the report said.

Una Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh said the the police is keeping an eye on the matter and further investigation is underway.

The Nari panchayat has decided that the whole expense of the wedding i.e Rs 5.86 lakh would be borne by the woman who acted as the middleman in order to teach her a lesson. Panchayat Pradhan Ram Kumar said it has been decided that the accused woman will give the entire amount to the groom's family.
