'The Day He Became CM...': Haryana BJP Minister's Jibe At Nayab Singh Saini

Vij had earlier expressed frustration over government officials not complying his orders and said that he was prepared to go on a fast-unto-death like farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal.

Haryana Cabinet Minister Anil Vij on Friday took a dig at Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini saying the "CM never comes down from his flying chariot" and that he has remained in the air since he became the CM.

His remark came a day Vij, who is the Transport and Energy Minister, expressed frustration over government officials not complying his orders and said that he was prepared to go on a fast-unto-death like farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal for the sake of his Ambala Cantt constituents, if necessary.

"Our Chief Minister never comes down from his flying chariot," a report by the Indian Express quoted Vij as saying. "Since the day he became CM, he has remained in the air. If he had come down, he would have heard the sufferings of the public. This is not just my voice; it is the voice of all MLAs, all MPs, and all ministers," he said.

Following his remark, the Haryana government transferred Ambala Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta to Yamunagar, appointing Ajay Singh Tomar in his place. Gupta is a 2013 batch IAS officer. The state government did not provide any reason behind the transfer, but the report said that it was related to the Vij episode.

Saini, when asked about Vij’s allegation that "officials were not listening to him", said, "Anil Vij is our leader," Indian Express reported.

Vij alleged earlier today that a senior party leader tried to ensure that he did not win  the elections, and even planned an attack on him. The minister stated that he had publicly raised the issue of people involved in trying to ensure his defeat, "whether they were officials, employees, or minor political figures".

The 71-year-old BJP leader further said that he had suspected that a person with strong political backing was involved in the matter and that the person "even went as far as attempting to have me eliminated."

"But now, after no action has been taken against them, I am convinced of it. Since I am the senior-most leader and I am saying that efforts were made to defeat me, action should have been taken immediately. If not strict action, at least they should have been transferred or expelled from the party. But even after 100 days, nothing has been done, and now, whether they act or not, it no longer matters to me," he added.

Vij Threatens Fast Unto Death

Vij on Thursday said he had discontinued the 'janata darbar' (public meetings) which he used to hold in his Ambala Cantonment constituency since "officers are not doing the work (on my instructions)". He also warned of launching an agitation if this continued, PTI reported.

"I may not attend grievances redressal committee meetings either because my orders are not being implemented by the officials," Vij said.

"(Baki Haryana ka toh mujhe kuchh nahi lena…) I have nothing to do with the rest of Haryana, but the people of Ambala Cantt have elected me MLA seven times. For their work, even if I have to hold an agitation, I will do that. And if I have to go on a fast unto death like (farmer leader Jagjit) Dallewal, I will do that, Vij," the Transport and Energy Minister added.

In October last year, Vij had expressed frustration over the absence of some senior officers at a meeting called by him in Ambala.

Former Congress leader and Independent candidate Chitra Sarwara who finished second after Vij in the Assembly polls 2024 stated that the minister’s comments showed his failure.

"The people of Ambala voted for Anil Vij seven times so that he could do their work. Your party gave you ministership. You should not give a threat to observe a fast-unto-death and launch an agitation. When the budget of crores was being allotted to Ambala, you said works were done at the speed of a bullet," Indian Express quoted her as saying.
