Bihar: Gang Members Fire At Anant Singh In Mokama, Ex-MLA Escapes Unhurt

The attack was carried out by Sonu-Monu gang in the Mokama area after they fired 60-70 rounds at Anant Singh's convoy. The former MLA from Mokama has escaped unhurt in the attack.

A firing incident has been reported at former MLA Anant Singh in Mokama area of Patna district in Bihar on Wednesday evening. As per initial reports, the attack was carried out by Sonu-Monu gang in Mokama area after they fired 60-70 rounds at Anant Singh's convoy.

The former MLA from Mokama, who was on a visit to the Nauranga Jalalpur village in the Mokama area, escaped unhurt in the attack. Barh Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rakesh Kumar said that no casualty has been reported in the firing so far.

“The police received a call that an incident of firing took place in Nauranga village in Mokama area under the jurisdiction of Pachmala Police Station limits in the evening. A team immediately reached the spot and recovered three cartridges. The matter is being investigated, the ASP said.

Kumar further that there are conflicting versions of the conflict coming from the locals in the area. "We are investigating these. A section of villagers claimed that initially some shots were fired, on the instructions of the former MLA, by his supporters," he said.

A case is being registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a family which claimed that their house was targeted during the firing, he added.

Singh, a gangster turned politician, had represented the Mokama assembly seat several times. He has faced disqualification following the first order of conviction passed in June 2022, relating to a case lodged after an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and two hand grenades were recovered from his ancestral residence two years earlier.

The Mokama seat is currently represented by Singh's wife Neelam Devi, who won the seat on the RJD ticket. However, Neelam Devi crossed over to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U).
