Drunk Truck Driver Hits MP BJP Chief's SUV, Breaks Barricades, Injures Cops; Held After Dramatic Chase

A truck driver who hit several vehicles on a 148-km stretch in Madhya Pradesh to flee after ramming into state BJP chief VD Sharma's SUV in Bhopal has been arrested by the police after a dramatic chase.
The incident took place on Thursday night and the accused was finally caught after a dramatic chase involving police personnel of several police stations, during which the accused even broke police barricades, damaged several vehicles and injured some cops, a police official told news agency PTI.
Govind Meena, in-charge of Biora Dehat police station in Rajgarh district, said the arrested driver has been identified as Ajay Malviya.
"The truck being driven by Malviya hit state BJP president V D Sharma's SUV in Lalghati area of Bhopal around 9.30 pm on Thursday. After that, he fled from the spot and headed to Narsinghgarh," he said.
The truck driver was returning to Shujalpur in Madhya Pradesh after offloading onions in Kolkata. After the incident at Lalghati, the security personnel alerted the police control room, who tried to stop the truck in Gandhi Nagar, Bhopal, but the driver did not stop and broke the barricades and fled swerving recklessly on the road, Meena said.

The police personnel continued to chase the truck, but the driver accelerated the vehicle, attempting to crush two of the officers at Gandhi Nagar, narrowly escaping.
Kurawar police station staff also chased the truck, which later stopped at Kachnariya toll plaza. But the driver tried to hit the cops, injuring one constable Santosh Verma. According to Meena, the accused then drove to the Biaora-Dewas road as the pursuit continued, PTI reported.
He was finally nabbed at Udankhedi toll plaza near Pachor in Rajgarh district after he stopped the vehicle and tried to flee, the official said.

A total of five FIRs have been registered against the accused at different police stations, Meena said. While two of them were filed at Bhopal's Gandhi Nagar and Koh-e-fiza police stations, one was filed at Narsinghgarh police station in Rajgarh district, and two others at Biaora Dehat police station, PTI reported.
