Religious Significance Of Mukhba:

PM Modi’s visit to Mukhba holds deep religious importance for devotees. The village has been a center of spiritual significance since ancient times and is renowned for its natural beauty and religious heritage. Situated about 75 kilometers from Uttarkashi and a short distance from Harsil, Mukhba is the winter abode of Maa Ganga, also known as Mukhimath. It is one of the four sacred sites where the deities of the Char Dham are worshipped during winter.

Located at an altitude of approximately 8,000 feet above sea level, Mukhba is considered the maternal home of Maa Ganga due to its role as her winter dwelling. The village is home to around 450 families, including the pilgrimage priests of Gangotri Dham. When the doors of Gangotri Dham close for winter, the idol of Maa Ganga is brought to Mukhba for six months, making it a hub for devotees who visit to offer their prayers.
