Final-Year MBBS Student Dies By Suicide In Kota, Police Recover Note

A final-year MBBS student allegedly died by suicide in Kota, Rajasthan, Mahavir Nagar Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohan Lal said, according to ANI. The student had been living in the city for the past three years. The police have also recovered a suicide note from him.
According to a report by Live Mint, the Kota Medical College student had locked himself in his hostel room and hung himself with a rope. The other students grew concerned after he was nowhere to be found. Later, they broke down his room's door and found him hanging from the ceiling.
The college administration immediately informed Mahavir Nagar Police, who then sent the student's body for a postmortem. The police later handed over his body to his parents.
As per the report, he was under a lot of stress and was unable to perform as per his expectations. In his letter, he student apologised to his parents for failing to meet their expectations.
The student had been living in Kota for the past three years.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Kota, a major coaching hub, has been grappling with a worrying rise in student suicides. This year alone, atleast six cases of suicide have been reported. According to IANS, Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar has urged parents not to pressure their children into pursuing careers against their will. In 2023, at least 23 students died by suicide in Kota, while 17 such deaths were reported in 2022.
For the academic session 2025-26, the Kota district administration has mandated the installation of anti-suicide ceiling fans in hostels and coaching centres as part of the new guidelines under the Kota Cares Campaign.
Other key features of the new guidelines include the removal of security and caution money in all 4,000 hostels across the city. Previously, hostels charged this amount and refunded it at the end of the year.
