IMD Issues Heatwave Alert For Delhi As Temperature Continues To Soar
IMD has issued a severe heat alert for Delhi on April 8-9, with forecasted temperatures of 41-42°C and 22-24°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe heat alert for Delhi as temperatures continue to rise sharply in the national capital.
As per their latest bulletin, the weather bureau has issued heatwave alert for Delhi on April 8 and 9.
The IMD has forecast that the maximum and the minimum temperature in the national capital would be around 41 and 22 degrees Celsius respectively on April 8.
For April 9, the weather agency said that the maximum and the minimum temperature would be around 40-42 degrees Celsius and 22-24 degrees Celsius respectively.
Earlier, the IMD extended the yellow alert in Delhi for the next two days after the national capital recorded its first heatwave of the season on Monday with the maximum temperature touching 40.2 degrees Celsius.
According to IMD, other weather stations, including Ridge and Ayanagar, also recorded maximum temperatures exceeding 40 degrees, with both touching 41 degrees Celsius. In addition, Palam and Lodhi Road stations also marked a high of around 39 degrees.
As per the IMD’s colour-coded warning system, a yellow alert means “Be Aware.” It advises people to avoid prolonged exposure to heat, wear light-coloured, breathable cotton clothing, and protect their heads with a cloth, hat or umbrella.
On Sunday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius which is 3.1 notches above the seasonal average, according to the IMD. The minimum temperature of national capital was 18.5 degrees Celsius, which was 1.5 notch below the seasonal average.
Heatwave Conditions in 11 States
A heatwave spell is expected to dominate large parts of India this week. The affected states include Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and parts of the South Peninsular region.
“Heat wave may continue in some parts of Gujarat till 10 April,” IMD noted. “Severe heat wave conditions may prevail in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch till 7 April.” Rajasthan is expected to face both heatwave and severe heatwave situations from 7 to 10 April.
In Haryana and Chandigarh, heatwave conditions are likely till 10 April. Western Uttar Pradesh will be under heatwave watch from 7 to 9 April, and Madhya Pradesh from 8 to 10 April.
