Delhi Police has issued two notices to AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal in connection with an alleged syndicate of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, according to an official statement.
According to a report by PTI, the first notice was issued on Saturday, followed by a second on Sunday, summoning Goyal, who represents Rithala, for questioning. Police stated that documents recovered from the immigrants reportedly bore the signature and seal of Goyal.
It also said that the case originated last December when people dismantled an illegal immigration racket, arresting 11 individuals, including the national of Bangladesh.
Subsequent Cops disclosed that further investigation unveiled documents along with the AAP MLA's signature. Police said questioning of the immigrants and intermediaries led to the recovery of further material implicating the AAP leader.
In response, the Aam Aadmi Party accused the BJP of using government agencies to target opposition leaders ahead of elections. "The BJP only engages in negative politics -- filing false cases and misusing the state machinery to suppress opposition leaders," read the statement.
Fadnavis Says Bangladeshi Migrants Obtaining Documents Illegally In Maharashtra
In a separate event, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis lashed out on Sunday stating that Bangladeshi migrants seeking birth certificates illegally in the state to obtain voting rights was "vote jihad part 2".
As per the report by PTI, during the November assembly election campaign, Devendra Fadnavis referred to instances of a community voting collectively against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, labelling it as "vote jihad."
While speaking at the state convention of BJP in Shirdi in Ahilyanagar, Fadnavis said, "Bangladeshi infiltrators are seeking birth certificates in Maharashtra as part of vote jihad part 2. Nearly 100 such cases have been reported in Amravati and Malegaon tehsil in Nashik. These people, many aged around 50 years, are obtaining documents illegally."
He emphasised that not a single infiltrator would be allowed to stay in Maharashtra and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to combating anarchist forces seeking to create caste-based and communal divisions. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and support efforts to strengthen this resolve.
