WATCH: Satyendar Jain's First Reaction From Court On Bail After 2 Years As AAP Celebrates Relief

As AAP leader Satyendar Jain received bail from Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court, AAP leaders celebrated the court decision and criticised the BJP for targeting its leaders.

AAP leader Satyendar Jain was granted bail by Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court in an alleged money laundering case on Friday. Upon his release, Jain stated, “I will again say 'Satyamev Jayate’” at the court premises earlier today. Jain's bail follows a series of releases granted to senior AAP leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh in separate cases concerning the liquor policy. Jain's lawyer indicated that the former minister is expected to leave prison today.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Satyendar Jain on May 30, 2022, for allegedly laundering money through four companies connected to him. Special Judge Vishal Gogne justified the bail decision, noting, "Considering the delay in trial and long incarceration of 18 months, and the fact that trial will take long to start, let alone conclude, accused is favourably suited for the relief,” as reported by news agency PTI.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi also echoed the same remarks as she posted, “Satyamev Jayate”.

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal welcomed the news, stating, “Satyendar Jain has also got bail after being in jail for more than two years. What was his crime? He has been raided multiple times and not a single penny was found. His only fault was that he built mohalla clinics and provided free treatment to all Delhi residents. Modi ji has jailed him to shut down mohalla clinics and stop free treatment for the poor. But God is with us. Today he is also free. Welcome back, Satyendar!”

AAP Leader Satyendar Jain Likely To Walk Out Of Prison Today, AAP Welcomes Bail

Jain is likely to be released from jail late evening, Counsel Vivek Jain told news agency ANI, “Trail court has granted bail to Satyendar Jain and said that he has a right under article 21 to be not incarcerated indefinitely when the trial has not even commenced. Therefore, the trial court has extended liberty...There are no special conditions...He should be coming out today late evening.”

Satyendar Jain’s daughter, Shreya Jain, expressed her relief, stating, “We always knew this would happen; it was just a matter of time. We are very happy that the court has given us justice. Diwali is about to happen, but I think it came early for us this year. We are happy and we have a very enthusiastic welcome.”

Speaking to ANI, his wife thanked the court for the bail, “I thank the court and the judiciary. It was tough but we had faith because he had not done anything wrong in his entire life...We have been waiting for this for a long time...For him this is not politics he is a social worker. He wants to do something for the society...”

AAP leader Manish Sisodia called for an apology from the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “It makes me happy that our party's senior leader Satyendar Jain has been granted bail... PM Modi and BJP should apologise to the people of Delhi because Satyendar Jain was sent to jail; the development work at Delhi hospitals and mohalla clinics had been stalled. BJP sent me, Satyendar Jain, and Arvind Kejriwal to jail, but they couldn't find a single penny from our place. They levelled false allegations against us, and their ED jailed us based on those allegations…”

AAP MP Sanjay Singh noted Jain's ordeal, saying, “He lost 36 kgs of weight, and he and his family had to suffer a lot. PM Modi and Amit Shah tried everything to break him. I would like to salute Satyendar Jain for the courage he showed against them and did not bow down before them.”

Gopal Rai, another AAP leader and Delhi minister, remarked that Jain's release would strengthen the party, criticising the BJP for its actions. “This is very good news for the people of Delhi. I thank the court for this decision. The manner in which the BJP made all possible attempts to roadblock the works of Arvind Kejriwal’s government has been exposed. All the leaders are out of jail now and trying to work in Delhi in a speedy manner. Satyendar Jain getting bail has given us strength,” he said.

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate raised concerns about the detention of leaders without trial, saying, “He has been in jail for so many years. The court should also answer how people are kept in jail for years like this. I believe that the court should make sure that justice should also be seen as happening.”

However, Congress national secretary Abhishek Dutt attacked the top AAP leadership as he remarked, "...Getting bail does not mean that the judge has acquitted him (Satyendra Jain)...When Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia were released from such a big case, they were presenting themselves as freedom fighters...Today, if the names of the people who have done the most corruption in Delhi are taken, the name of Arvind Kejriwal and his entire battalion comes up in it..."

Special Judge Rakesh Syal reserved the order following arguments from both Jain's counsel and the ED. Jain’s counsel argued that further custody would not serve any purpose, while the ED opposed the bail plea, citing concerns that Jain could influence witnesses or flee from justice. The case against Jain stems from an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
