Airhostess Hires Taxi Bike To Return Home, Gets 'Molested' By Rider In New Delhi; Accused Nabbed From UP

The incident took place near Buddha Jayanti Park in New Delhi on Wednesday night, when the airhostess was returning home in Dwarka on the taxi e-bike she had hired in east Delhi.

Delhi: An airhostess was allegedly dragged and molested in Delhi on Wesnesday night by an e-bike taxi rider while she was on her way home, police said on Tuesday. The police have managed to arrest the accused from Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya.

The incident occured on the Simon Bolivar Marg situated near Buddha Jayanti Park, when the victim was returning home on the taxi bike she had hired in east Delhi.

Devesh Kumar Mahla Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) told news agency PTI that the accused, identified as 35-year-old Jaiveer has been nabbed on the basis of the woman's complaint from Auraiya.

Mahla said he was booked under sections 74, 76, 109(1), and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Chanakyapuri Police Station.

According to police sources, the accused is suspected to have been involved in previous criminal cases as well.

In her complaint, the woman told police that she had hired the e-bike to go towards her home in Dwarka on Wednesday night. While on their way, the accused driver had asked her guide him with the directions from the GPS map as he handed over his phone to her.

The woman told the police that the driver had also requested her to buy him an ice-cream, PTI reported citing sources.

Thereafter, the driver took his mobile phone back from her after riding for a few kilometers and took a wrong turn.

On being asked why he took a wrong turn, he told the woman that it was a short cut.

The accused then stopped the bike at a secluded area and dragged her towards a clutch of trees, where he allegedly began assaulting her. The woman then tried to raise an alarm.

Hearing her, a couple that was passing through the same route, stopped their car on spotting the woman in distress.

The driver ran away from the spot when he saw the couple approaching them, leaving his two helmets behind.

The couple then dropped the woman at a nearby metro station.

Police stated that they are investigation into the matter is underway. The police also said that they were checking Jaiveer's antecedents as well.
