AAP Legislature Party Meeting At Arvind Kejriwal's Residence On Tuesday Over New Delhi CM

AAP leaders on Monday held a series of meetings to discuss probables for the chief minister's post before the meeting of MLAs to finalise the successor for Kejriwal.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called a legislature party meeting at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence on Tuesday.

In the letter, sent by AAP's National Secretary Pankaj Kumar Gupta, all the party MLAs have been asked to remain present for the meeting.

The meeting comes ahead of Kejriwal's scheduled meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4:30 pm on Tuesday. The AAP convenor is likely to resign from his position on Tuesday and has sought an appointment with LG Saxena to submit his resignation, according to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources. The Delhi LG office has scheduled Kejriwal's appointment for 4:30 pm tomorrow.

Kejriwal, after being released from Tihar jail on bail in the excise policy case, on Sunday said he would resign within 48 hours and sought early polls in Delhi.

He vowed not to sit in the chief minister's chair till people gave him a certificate of honesty.

The party, meanwhile, held a series of meetings on Monday as Kejriwal sought feedback from members of the political affairs committee, the party's highest decision-making body, on his successor in one-on-one meetings at his official residence.

Earlier in the day, the AAP supremo met senior leaders, including former deputy CM Manish Sisodia and MP Raghav Chadha, about the party's choice for chief minister.

Names of Delhi ministers Atishi, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot and Saurabh Bharadwaj are making the rounds as contenders, PTI quoted party insiders as saying.

Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal and Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel are also said to be probables for the CM's chair.

Talking to reporters after the political affairs committee meeting, Bharadwaj said Kejriwal held one-on-one talks with party leaders to get their feedback on his successor.

"He (Kejriwal) sought one-on-one feedback from each leader on his replacement. Tomorrow (Tuesday), the legislative party meeting is there and this discussion will go into the second round," Bharadwaj said.

Kejriwal has sought polls in the national capital in November. The Delhi Assembly's term ends on February 23 and the polls are expected to be held some time in early February.
