Delhi Cafe Owner Dies By Suicide On New Year's Eve, Family Says He Was 'Upset' With Wife

The man has left behind a video and the police have recovered his phone and called his wife for questioning.

Puneet Khurana Suicide: A cafe owner in Delhi was found dead at his home in the Model Town area on New Year's Eve on Tuesday, with police suspecting that he died by suicide. The 40-year-old man, identified as Puneet Khurana, was "upset" with his estranged wife, his family has alleged. The couple got married in 2016 and were in the middle of getting a divorce, officials said.

"Yesterday at 4.18 PM, information regarding suicide was received. On reaching the spot, one Puneet Khurana age 40 years was found lying on the bed in an irresponsive state with a ligature mark over his neck, who had committed suicide by hanging. He was shifted to BJRM Hospital. The body was preserved for the purpose of post-mortem," police said.

The man has left behind a video and the police have recovered his phone and called his wife for questioning.

Khurana's sister accused his wife and her parents of harassing him. "Manika Pahwa, her sister and her parents mentally tortured and harassed him. There is a video recording of around 59 minutes, in which Puneet has mentioned details of harassment he faced. The woman had even hacked Puneet's social media account," she said.

The incident comes just days after the death of a software engineer, Atul Subhash, by suicide in Bengaluru. The 34-year-old had left behind a 24-page note in which he blamed his wife Nikita Singhania and her parents for driving him to suicide. The techie also blamed the judicial system for "forcing" him to take the extreme step.

Meanwhile, a court document from Jaunpur has surfaced, revealing Nikita's serious allegations against Atul. The document pertains to a prior case and includes Nikita's counter-statements to Atul’s accusations.

Nikita Singhani's Allegations Against Atul Subhash

Atul had alleged that Nikita left their home voluntarily, promising to return soon. However, after relocating to Jaunpur, Nikita filed nine cases against him. Nikita refuted this claim in the court document, stating that she did not leave the house voluntarily and accused Atul of forcing her out.

"He evicted me twice—once in May 2021 and again in September 2021. Hoping he might realise his mistake, I visited him in Bengaluru, but he refused to let me enter the house, compelling us to lodge a police complaint," she alleged.
