In a massive blow, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta suspended Atishi and 20 other AAP MLAs from the Legislative Assembly for two days on Tuesday following an uproar over the CAG report on the liquor policy, barring them from proceedings until February 28, according to a report by ANI.
The CAG report was tabled by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. As soon as the session began for the day, Lt Governor VK Saxena addressed the House. Amid his speech, AAP legislators began shouting against the BJP government.
However, the Speaker of the House, Vijender Gupta, made multiple requests to all MLAs to remain calm, but they continued to disrupt the Lt Governor's speech. Responding to their act, the Speaker suspended 21 MLAs of AAP.
As the suspended MLAs staged a protest within the Assembly premises, Atishi accused the BJP of dishonoring BR Ambedkar by taking down his portrait from the Chief Minister's office.
House To Forward CAG Report To PAC Committee For Investigation
During the Assembly session, the first CAG report was tabled, which included the Excise Policy report. The House will forward this report to the PAC Committee for investigation. The PAC Committee will consist of 12 to 14 members.
Leaders from both the ruling party and the opposition will be included as members of the PAC Committee. The PAC Committee will be formed soon.
After completing the investigation, the PAC Committee will submit its report back to the House. Finally, the House will take action on the report and will have the authority to impose punishments. More CAG reports may be tabled during the session, which will continue until March 3.
