CCTV Captures Moment When Businessman Gopal Khemka Was Shot Dead Outside His House In Patna

Prominent businessman Gopal Khemka on Friday was shot dead near his residence in Patna by a bike-borne assailant. His son was also murdered in a similar manner seven years ago in Hajipur.

CCTV footage of the exact moment when prominent businessman Gopal Khemka was shot-dead by a nike-borne man outside his home in Patna, Bihar on Friday night has surfaced.

The incident took place around 11.40 PM on Friday near the gate of Khemka’s house in Gandhi Maidan locality as he was about to alight from his car.

The video shows a man in a blue shirt and a black helmet standing outside Khemka's home. Shortly thereafter, two vehicles arrived at the scene, waiting for the security guard to open the iron gate. The first car was driven by Khemka, with a woman seated beside him, while the second car was driven by another individual. A woman was also sitting beside him.

As Khemka waited, the accused approached, fired at him while he was in his car, and then escaped the scene on a motorcycle.

When the guard opened the gate, Khemka was found unresponsive, slumped over the steering wheel. The occupants of the second car exited their vehicle in a state of panic.

It was later confirmed that the businessman died on the spot.  The police have recovered one bullet and a shell casing from the crime scene.

The Bihar police have also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), comprising officials of the Special Task Force and sleuths of the central district police, to investigate the case.

The reason behind the crime is not yet known, but DGP Vinay Kumar said the possibility of old enmity cannot be ruled out. Khemka's son, Gunjan Khemka, was also  gunned down by assailants seven years ago in Hajipur.

“Khemka’s son was also killed in Hajipur in 2018. In the wake of that, security was provided to Gopal Khemka on a payment basis. It was withdrawn in April 2024, and he never requested for security thereafter. After yesterday’s incident, police have provided security to his other son, who is a doctor by profession,” Kumar told news agency PTI.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday convened a meeting to review the law and order situation in Bihar and instructed officials to complete the investigation into the Khemka's killing at the earliest.
