Mumbai To Be Hit By Water Cuts For 30 Hours As BMC Installs New Water Pipeline

The water supply from two 1,800 mm diameter pipelines from Tansa and West will be halted, causing a water cut in several areas till February 6.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is installing a new 2,400 mm diameter water pipeline between the Powai Anchor Block and the Maroshi Water Tunnel, which began at 11 am on Wednesday, February 5. The work is expected to take 30 hours, concluding by 5 pm on Thursday. As a result, the water supply from two 1,800 mm diameter pipelines from Tansa and West will be halted, causing a water cut in several areas, including Ghatkopar, Bhandup, Kurla, Dharavi, Andheri East, and Bandra East, according to the Hindustan Times.

As per the report, on Wednesday, the report said that among the areas that will not receive water supply is the south section of Kurla: Kajupada, Navpada, New MHADA Colony, Maharashtra Kata, Pipe Line Marg, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Kranti Nagar; parts of Dharavi including Dharavi Main Marg, Dilip Kadam Marg, Mahim Phatak, A. K. G. Nagar; parts of Andheri East: Marol, Gavdevi, Church Road, Hill View Society and Bhandarwada.

The civic body had said that it was possible that for the following few days, the water may remain muddy after the pipe was fixed and asked the residents to boil the water before use.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on January 21, in an X post, stated that repair work on the Tansa West Water Pipeline at Powai was completed after they detected a leak in the system. They further said that the water will be stored in a phased manner in S Ward, K East Ward, G North Ward and H East Ward. 

The BMC posted that it had noticed a major leakage near the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road Bridge, on the Tansa West Water Pipeline at Powai. The civic body said that the water supply from the Tansa pipeline was immediately stopped.

It had said that the repair work was being done on an urgent basis, adding that during the repair work, the water supply from Powai to Dharavi via the pipeline would remain suspended.

Further said, “Consequently, some areas in the S Ward, K-East Ward, G-North Ward and H-East Ward will face water supply disruptions.” The civic body appealed that during this time, said citizens to use water “judiciously during the repair period”.
