Ranchi: Birsa Munda's Descendant Mangal Munda Passes Away After Road Accident Injuries

Mangal Munda, who had been undergoing treatment at RIMS after suffering injuries in a road accident, succumbed to cardiovascular failure.

Mangal Munda, the great-grandson of tribal icon Birsa Munda, passed away at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) late Thursday night. He was 45 years old. Mangal Munda, who had been undergoing treatment at RIMS after suffering injuries in a road accident, succumbed to cardiovascular failure, according to the hospital's Public Relations Officer. He breathed his last at 12:30 am on Friday at the RIMS health facility.

Dr. Hiren Birua, Medical Superintendent at RIMS, said, “Mangal Munda died of cardiovascular failure around 12:30 am. He was on a ventilator after being critically injured. We tried our best to save him but failed.”

On learning about the death news of Birsa Munda's descendant, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren paid homage to the departed.

"I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Shri Mangal Munda ji, a descendant of Lord Birsa Munda, who was undergoing treatment at RIMS," Soren said in an X post.

"May Marang Buru grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this difficult time of grief," his social media post added.

Mangal Munda had been admitted to RIMS on Tuesday after being referred from Khunti's Sadar Hospital. He had sustained a serious brain injury and underwent surgery under the supervision of Dr. Anand Prakash, Head of the Neurosurgery Department at RIMS. Doctors revealed that blood clots on both sides of his brain worsened his condition.

Mangal Munda sustained head injuries after falling from the roof of a passenger vehicle near Pidihatu More in the Saiko police station area in Jharkhand's Khunti district on Monday evening.

In light of his critical health, officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, had been monitoring his treatment closely. CM Soren and his wife and Kalpana Soren visited RIMS on Wednesday to inquire about Munda’s health.
