Low Pressure Causing Inclement Weather
According to the Meteorological Centre Patna, a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal started forming at 8:30 AM on April 10. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to the mid-tropospheric level, which, after 12 hours, started weakening gradually over the central Bay of Bengal while moving northeast. Due to this, the easterly wind flow has become active in the state.
There is also an increase in humidity. Due to these factors, the rainfall, lightning and high wind activity will continue in the state.
"The upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bihar now lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level," an IMD bulletin on Friday read.
Damage To Slums And Mud Houses
The changing weather is causing damage to crops. The IMD said that heavy rain and storms could damage slums, tin and mud houses. Advice has been given to avoid this. Farmers have been advised to be cautious about staying in open spaces.
On Thursday, all 38 districts of the state experienced rainfall with strong winds. The highest rainfall of 116.2 millimetres was recorded in Supaul. Heavy rainfall was recorded in Madhepura with 78.4, Kishanganj with 78.2, Saharsa with 74.2 and Madhubani with 66.8 millimetres.
At least 42 people were killed in Bihar due to rain and lightning related incidents.
The highest temperature was 35.5 degrees Celsius in Gaya. Meanwhile, the temperature in most districts of North Bihar was recorded below 30 degrees. The lowest temperature was 25.2 degrees Celsius in Supaul. The maximum temperature in Patna was 32.2 degrees Celsius.
