As per the Indian Express, bad weather, including heavy rain and strong winds, reportedly contributed to the accident. The first chariot toppled at Chikka Nagamangala, damaging several parked vehicles, while hundreds of devotees handling the ropes fled for safety. The second chariot at Rayasandra collapsed due to miscalculations amid strong winds, leading to casualties and injuries, police officials told the publication.
“This incident marks the first occurrence in the temple’s 100-year history,” Indian Express's report quoted Rakesh, a resident of Hoskur and one of the event organisers, as saying.
Among those injured, a 16-year-old girl remains in critical condition, while two others are stable and receiving treatment, a police officer said.

Initially, there was confusion regarding jurisdiction, but the Hebbagodi police have now taken charge of both cases. A case of death due to negligence has been registered against the organisers, police officials informed, as per the report.
“The organisers did not adhere to necessary safety measures while pulling the chariots, and this is a critical aspect of the investigation,” the police were quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
